Choose Your Media

for Painters

I’ve curated a list of delightful archival media worthy of your art because I know that selecting the right media can be a bit overwhelming. I’ve added a few thoughts here about why I’ve chosen to use these materials. I have experience with each material listed here and I know its characteristics. If you have questions please let me know. I’ll be happy to talk through this decision process with you.

If you’d like you can also look at the photo print media options and see if any of these interest you (some are duplicates of what’s found here).

Canvas

LYVE matte

by Breathing Color®

I’ve printed on many a canvas material and nothing holds the image more vividly and crisply than LYVE matte by Breathing Color.

With an archivability rating of 100 years your art will live for generations on this wonderful canvas material.

You can optionally add an archival varnish coating  for UV resistance, scuff protection, and water resistance. It’s available in a satin or matte finish.

RENAISSANCE cotton

by Breathing Color®

Go natural with this 100% cotton archival canvas media. It takes prints and paints equally well and with no synthetic fibers the texture is a luscious as can be.

You can optionally add an archival varnish coating  for UV resistance, scuff protection, and water resistance. However, doing so will cover up a bit of that earthy natural feel that this cotton canvas is known for. My recommendation is the matte varnish. It’ll stay out of the way while offering extra protection.

Matte Paper

RAG PHOTOGRAPHIQUE

by Canson Infinity

I love how images pop on this very supple material. It’s smooth yet textured. Its ability to hold shadow details is incredible for a paper of this type, and it holds on to the highlight details incredibly well too thanks to its very smooth texture. It weighs in at 310 gsm making it a beautifully thick material. The details of the paper simply stay out of the way allowing the richness of your art to be realized.

OPTICA ONE

by Breathing Color®

This matte cotton rag paper is quite smooth and has a bright and brilliant white point. It measures in at 300gsm meaning it’s nice and rich and thick. I particularly like how B&W photography looks on this paper. Though color is quite good as well.

You can optionally add an archival varnish coating for UV resistance, scuff protection, and water resistance. It’s available in a satin or matte finish.
